The Research Project
This grant is funded by the Andrew
W. Mellon Foundation
January 2005 - December 2005
During the proposed 12-month period of the planning grant, the
University of Minnesota - Twin Cities Libraries will collaborate
with the College of Liberal Arts, to develop a multi-dimensional
model for assessing support for scholarship and research in the
context of a large research campus. Sixteen academic departments
have been selected for exploration within the humanities and social
sciences. They are:
| - African American & African
Studies |
- English |
| - American Indian Studies |
- French & Italian |
| - American Studies |
- Geography |
| - Anthropology |
- German, Scandinavian & Dutch |
| - Asian Languages & Literatures |
- History |
| - Chicano Studies |
- Political Science |
| - Classical & Near Eastern Studies |
- Sociology |
| - Cultural Studies & Comparative
Literature |
- Spanish & Portuguese |
The model will address the perceived fragmentation of content,
services, tools, and physical environments that enable research
and will identify areas where the Libraries might advance greater
coherence to the diverse systems of support. The framework will
focus on three broad components: information resources, infrastructure
services, and research behaviors. The planning process will be used
to develop the proposed framework for analysis, but also to engage
both the college and library communities in the process.
